We don't need better movies,

we need lower expectations. -- DH

I have seen many cheesy, horribly bad slasher flicks. Some were meant to be funny (Student Bodies, Return to Horror High), some were supposed to be suspenseful (Friday the 13th part 1), and many that were a waste of film (The Edge of the Axe springs to mind).

Personally, since I went into the theatre expecting very little from Broken Lizard's Club Dread I was pleasantly surprised. It reminded me a bit of the old who-dunits, everyone is a suspect ... until they die.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone hoping for pathos, but it was an amusing diversion. I also wouldn't have recommended it to the family of four six rows in front of us with the newborn and the eight-year-old. Hello! I've seen exactly one commercial for the movie and I could guess there were going to be exposed breasts and sex jokes. Not a family movie.

At least there weren't any fart jokes!

I did almost get trampled by a hoard of eager The Passion viewers. They were everywhere. I will, however, refrain from expressing my opinion (not of the movie, but on why I may or may not want to see the movie) as I have already been criticized for having an opinion.

Speaking of films...

Someone on the V has seen "Shaun of the Dead," and it sounds good. Eee! Yay, zombies.

Is this going to be another one like "28 Days Later" where I'm traumatized for months after? :-)

I really should've started with the cheesiest zombie movies available and worked up. Explaining this to Mr. Bee, I showed him what I meant: arms straight out in front of me, head tilted, eyes crossed, tongue stuck out, goofy expression...

Mr. Bee said you might have good suggestions for DVD rentals if I wanted to get up to speed...

This one's a zombie comedy, so that should be fine. Unfortunately, it doesn't have an American release date yet. Bah!

Funny zombies? Hmm... That's difficult.

I would suggest Return of the Living Dead Part 2 for humor zombies. The first RotLD is amusing (to me, anyway) but Part 2 actually seems to strive for the humor. Ignore Part three because that one is straight up zombie flick.

The Stuff has a funny premise but it's been so long since I've seen it I'm not sure if it was scary or not. Boils down to bubbling marshmallow cream from the bowels of the earth turns people (and animals) into mindless killer zombies.

Weekend at Bernie's Part 2. Not a horror film. 'Nuff said.

My Boyfriend's Back. Also not a horror film.

Night of the Creeps was a family favorite at my house (but my house was the creepy place at the top of the hill near the cemetery that no one wanted to walk near alone, so...). Favorite line was something along the lines of - "I've got good news and bad news, girls. Good news - you're dates are here. Bad news - they're dead." A bit gory.

Cemetery Man wasn't funny but wasn't horrible. A bit weird. I think it was French. Or Canadian. Or French Canadian. Or German. Beck knows.

Dawn of the Dead - otherwise known as The Shopping Mall One. Has its humorous moments. My personal favorite of the two Romero sequels to Night of the Living Dead.

Army of Darkness - skeletons more than zombies. Still funny.

Dead Alive - Personally, I do not recommend you watch this. I like this movie. It also holds the distinction of being the only film to ever make me physically ill every single time I watch it. It. Is. Disgusting. But funny. But. Very. Very. Gross. "I kick ass for the Lord!"

Yippee! Guess what I'm going to do over spring break? I took the whole week off. You shoulda seen my boss: "Um. The WHOLE week?"

Well, yes. Why not when there's nothing to do at work and I've got vacation time I can kill without guilt?
