Ok, am I just incredibly blind and/or stupid - which could be highly possible, I admit - or is there no option for crossposting from LJ to another blog (ie. Dreamwidth)?

I can find the FAQ on Dreamwidth that tells me how to post there and have it crosspost here, but I would prefer to be able to post here and crosspost there. And possibly to IJ. Because LJ is my primary blog. For the moment. Judging by the way things are moving downhill so quickly, that could change in the foreseeable future.

Anywho, am I missing something obvious, or will I need to post to Dreamwidth if I want both blogs to have the same content without having to double (or triple) post the same thing?

In other news, Dreamwidth is incredibly helpful when it comes to importing journals. Spells everything out in nice, easy to figure out terms. They've got some issues with HTML not working quite right when they transfer profile information, but I managed to fix about fifty percent of that last night and just removed some other stuff that was causing issues because it was one in the morning and I'm sick.

Also, I don't know if you've heard this (and if you haven't, re-read the last two words of the above sentence) or not, but I'm sick. I seem to have picked up the Midget's boyfriend's cold from Christmas, although his was more of a sinus thing and mine has settled into my chest. Again. Blerg.

There isn't the option on LJ itself as far as I know. From what I understand that was completely new with Dreamwidth. Do you use a client when you post? I use Semagic to post to both LJ and DW simultaneously. It can do any sort of LJ-y journaling service. It's a couple more clicks each time rather than just hit the post button because it can't be set to do so by default, but I've found I got used to the extra clicks relatively easy. If you find the extra clicks annoying, I think it should be possible to set Semagic to post to DW primarily and then have DW's crossposter take care of the rest. I haven't tested it as I only just thought of it now, but I think it should work. Setting Semagic up to other services than LJ is, as I recall, a bit tricky, but I should be able to find some instructions on how to do it for you if you're interested. (I couldn't do it without, it's not super straight forward)

It's been years since I used LJs own update page now, I much prefer Semagic because it works like a mini-word processor and you can save posts as files for use later on and easily access your journal history and keep up with changes on your flist (doesn't work on DW, because the DW friending system is different). It can even be set to check your flist for new posts for you and give you a little notification if you wish. I haven't played with that bit though as it's not relevant to me.

I've never used a client to post before. I'm in the middle of fiddling with the newly imported posts on my new fic journal, have to fix all the links so they point to Dreamwidth posts instead of LJ. I suspect that will take me the rest of the day.

But after that, I will definitely be looking into Semagic to see if it's idiot proof enough for me to figure it out. It would be awesome if I could find a client that would post to LJ, DW and IJ simultaneously, but I would happily settle for just LJ and DW.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Oh dear yes, that would take a while. :)

I just tested to see if the combination of Semagic directly to DW + DW's crossposter would work in order to save a few clicks, and it does. :) Let me know if you need me to search for those non-LJ setup instructions that I used.

I'm so glad you posted this. I spent a great deal of time yesterday looking for LJ's crosspost function and coming up with nothing.

I do have Semagic, so it's helpful to know that might post in both places. :-)

Yes. The crossposting is only from DW to LJ, not the other way around. I do all my posting to DW now. Most of the time it comes through to LJ (when LJ is not fending off DDoS attacks from Russian politics). I still mainly read and comment on LJ, though.
