I should have expected something like this.

First, I've got an exchange fic to work on, and that always means trouble in some form.

Then, Captain and I went on vacation to visit family and friends (and, apparently, a cavern if I've been informed correctly about today's upcoming activity), which is also guaranteed to bring on some minor disaster or another.

The first casualty? My year and a half old laptop. Less than three days into vacation, Windows updates something (who knows what) and suddenly my laptop won't boot. Not even in safe mode. Totally hosed, at least until we get home and can try to reboot from an OS disk (I have no real idea if what I just typed will work, I'm just parrotting what every one else keeps telling me).

Not a problem, I say. Captain's laptop still works and I've got my fic saved to a thumb drive because I Have Learned From the Past!

Then casualty number two. My glasses. Oops.

Not a problem, I say. I have prescription sunglasses... that I suddenly remember are sitting on the Wii game shelf in my living room. Oops.

So, glasses need replaced ASAP when we get home, but totally work aroundable for now.

THEN, oh THEN... Captain's brother notices a strange sound coming from the back end of the car on Monday night. An ominous sound.

However, whatever it is (current theory, a bearing? that is going out. I didn't even know tires had bearings that could go out.) is still only at the creepy scary ominous noise stage and Captain is pretty sure we'll be fine for driving home tomorrow and then he'll take the car to a dealership who will try to hose us for everything we own, but that's okay because I had been hoarding money during the last deployment so I think we can afford to fix the creepy noise if not anything else that might show up when we take the car in.

So... that's my current running tally of Exchange and Vacation Curse issues, BUT we're not home yet.
