[livejournal.com profile] cptn_oblivious and I have adopted! (It's not what you might think.)

On Friday DH and I went by the local pound to look at the doggies. As I feared, the grayish Australian Shepard mix was gone. However, there were three adorable little things in a kennel labeled Pet of the Week. The Animal Shelter guy saw us looking at the pups and wandered over. "Those are Lhasas. All boys. Available on Monday." AS guy was a man of few words.

DH and I looked at each other and I looked back at the pups and a little dart hit me in the heart. Not unlike the onset of heartburn, really. By the time I looked up to ask the AS guy what we had to do to adopt, he was gone. I conferred with DH for a moment and we decided that in this, as with most things in our household, I was to be appeased and the puppy would be mine. AS guy reappeared as I was trying to explain to DH what a Lhasa Apso was. He helpfully had a book of dog breeds with him and showed DH a pic. Sort of a cross between a small Sheepdog and a dust mop. Now, picture it running around the yard, it's long hair flapping in the tiny breeze. That's the dog I wanted.

Then AS guy tells us the bad news. All Pet of the Week animals are popular. You can't just come in and say "I want that puppy." Too much demand. Everyone interested in the dog shows up at eleven (when the pound opens) and puts their name in a drawing. At 11:05, they draw a name and that person gets to adopt the dog. Three pups means three names.

So, DH and I arrived twenty minutes early and tried not to get to bummed out by the amount of people there. My name was drawn second, but the first guy hadn't even seen the dogs so he told me I could pick first.

And now, we have Colonel Brandon, a two month old Lhasa Apso with mostly tan fur. He's a cutie. Pictures soon. I promise.

Awww. My sis has a Lhahsahah Ahpshaho-mix who was just a doll. Her neighbors had one that was mean. But they are cute and perfectly small-dawg sized. Congrats!

Colonel Brandon! What a great name. :)

I think this is the breed of dog that our neighbors had when I was a kid. We called it The Racing Mop. :)

How lucky to be drawn out of that big a pool!

Congratulations!

Though I wouldn't be surprised if Colonel Brandon gets busted down to Corporal Puddles rather quickly.

That other dog? The one the other family got?

In my head, it'll always be named "Willoughby."

(Yay cuteness!)
