I'm not a big fan of posting simply for the sake of complaining about every little thing in my life - although I do it often enough, I know - so lately I've held off posting because I really didn't have anything good to say.

Then I realized I wasn't posting anything at all, and had sort of disappeared.

So, to sum it all up - The Highlights of the last few weeks.
  • My landlord raised the rent $150 more a month with 28 days notice, and because we were on a month-to-month lease because hubby didn't bother to renew the 6 month one at any point in the last 6 months like I kept reminding him to... we can't do a thing about it.

  • This is right after (like two days after) we buy a new and expensive piece of furniture (the couch) for the first time since we moved down here and bought an actual non-air mattress bed. So the timing was wonderful there.

  • At this time, we were also scrambling to afford to take the weekend off for [livejournal.com profile] hrhjahi's wedding, and at one point nearly had to cancel the trip. Thankfully, we were able to go and a good time was had by all.

  • I've been receiving phone calls and statements which are carefully worded to tell me they aren't really bills but they just want me to know that there is a balance due still from my ER visit in January after the car accident, and perhaps someone could see their way to issue a check to the nice hospital peoples before they come find me and break some kneecaps, kthnx. Since I was the hitee and not the hitter, the bills are supposed to be handled by the insurance company (based out of TX, where we were hit, handling the policy of a couple from Colorado, trying to deal with my parents who are Kansas residents and their insurance company based out of Nebraska for the car replacement and Captain and I who live in Oklahoma for the medical bills), but my insurance contact keeps assuring me that the bills have been paid "just yesterday" each and every time I contact her. I am beginning to suspect she might be fibbing. Or stupid.

  • For some reason I stupidly thought it would be a good idea to switch to caffiene free, diet coke.

  • Right before [livejournal.com profile] hrhjahi's wedding, I went in and had a small outpatient procedure done at the hospital, with the assurances that everything had gone smoothly. By that afternoon, I knew that was a load of crap, and spent the next two weeks in a low, constant pain with blistering skin and other yucky things. And yes, I am now sporting some lovely new scar tissue.

  • Captain managed to once again default on one of his student loans, that he has assured me on numerous occasions were in forbearance.

  • Speaking of Captain, he'll be deploying at the end of the year. No date known, no definite location, no idea how long this time.

  • Which leads to my next big difficulty, finding a new place to live. Because I wasn't kidding about the rent being far too high for the condition this place is in. However, I can't really afford to move at the moment either, and what is the point in moving to yet another house down here when my husband is about to take off for an undisclosed amount of time, leaving me here alone and seven hours away from friends and family. Again. At one point we were considering moving the household to Kansas right before he deploys so that I can spend that 6 to 18 months near people and perhaps not lose my mind, but it's beginning to look as if that's not going to be an option. Most places and utilities want you to sign a lease for at least 12 months and I can't guarantee that because when Captain returns he'll be at this Fort for at least two additional months, then he'll be transferred to a new base if he decides to re-enlist.

  • Re-enlisting provides its own set of problems, as I can't actually make plans for the future until we know if we're going to be signing up for another four years of this or not. This is a decision that we've discussed as a couple, but ultimately lies with Captain as he is the schmuck who has to get up at four am every day for PT and deal with other schmucks who are nearly all a decade younger and... sometimes less than bright, which frustrates him to no end.

  • My sister came down to visit, and had a rough time driving through OKC, so rather than traumatize her with another drive through it on the way to the zoo or the Omniplex we opted to stay home and veg. We spent an entire day watching Cycle Two of America's Next Top Model on VH1. As you do. Loved having her down to visit, but I did get behind on other things.

  • Just in time for Midget's visit, the AC in the house died. Last Wednesday the first repairman came out, cleaned the unit out. Thursday, the second repairman showed up because my master bedroom closet had turned into small marshland because the newly cleaned and happily cooling AC was leaking water like ... one of those things that leaks water. A lot. The carpet, which wasn't in the best of shape to begin with, squished when you stepped on it. As I did. In socks. A clogged drain was the diagnosis then, along with the warning that the drip pan was pretty rusty and looking sort of not good. Friday, the marshland was back and greater than before. Luckily we hadn't bothered putting anything back in the closet after the mass exodus on Thursday. By the time the newest flood was discovered we were edging into "Do not call unless the house is on fire, or you will be charged a bajillion dollars for the annoyance factor" emergency number time, and were only able to let them know the drip pan that might have been an issue probably was. Captain raided the towel closet to pad the sides of the AC unit in an attempt to soak up some of the diluge, and we cranked the thermostat up to 85 as much as possible, but the humidity was killing me. Today, repairman number one returns for his second visit and spends an hour on the phone with his girlfriend and knocking about in my hallway before he comes back to let me know that the drip pan is dead - long live the drip pan - and he's got the measurements and now he has to go back to the shop and MAKE A NEW ONE and it could be Tuesday night or possibly Wednesday before he comes back. And, oh yeah, until then he was unplugging the AC and the central air fan so they couldn't be used. Fucker.

  • Loki is still depressed, and still acting out by spraying things. Including that brand new, expensive sofa. Captain and I had a very large, and very emotional argument about the cat and the dog and life, the universe and everything. We both agreed the cat is on its very, very, very last chance - and by that we mean Captain is on his very, very, very last chance because it is his responsibility to make sure the thing gets its medication every single day and as long as he does that, Loki is sort of almost fine unless the dog is really being a pest or Loki gets outside and I have to go catch him and bring him back in. But then Captain starts slacking off, and the spraying starts again. LAST CHANCE! Then the cat goes to a new home somewhere.

  • AND FINALLY... wow that was a lot of bitching, wasn't it? Apparently, I've been holding a lot in lately. Captain and I have been trying to have a baby for nearly five years now, and for whatever reason it hasn't happened. He "forgets" to call for an appointment with his doctor to get checked out, and my doctor is... well, she's a fruit loop to put it nicely. The point is in February we really, really thought we were pregnant. The signs were there, I was almost a month late, and I had actually begun to adjust to the idea of finally being a mommy, and we went to the doctor to confirm it on Valentine's Day of all days. Then the shoe dropped, and it hit me much harder than I was prepared for.

I know that was terribly tl;dr, and I don't blame anyone for skipping, but I do feel a bit better getting it out in the open. I still owe people things that I promised to do and haven't, and I'm still no closer to actually doing them. And I'm sorry for that.

Anyway, now you know why I've been keeping quiet lately.
