Yesterday was a busy day.

[livejournal.com profile] rewil and I went to get my hair done. Yeah, she sat there for two hours reading and laughing at me while I got my hair dyed and cut.

For the first time in nearly twelve years I am not a redhead. True, there is red in my hair, but those are lowlights. I have... brown hair.

Just realized this means all my "me" icons are out of date. And I also just realized I'm too lazy to worry about changing them.

Anyway - this brown with subtle red is what I've been calling my "training hair". One of the ladies at the salon had hair color that I loved but didn't think I could pull off with my coloring so this is sort of an in between color to prep me for the drastic change, if I decide to try it. If having this medium brown color is too dark for me then next month it's back to my ever faithful red.

In other news I've decided to learn to knit. [livejournal.com profile] cptn_oblivious had been making noises about a Doctor Who scarf for a few years now and while I could crochet him one I thought it might be better if I made an effort to knit it. Which means learning to knit. Also - this thing is probably going to end up somewhere between 10 and 15 feet or longer, hence my need to learn how to knit NOW.

Yesterday I bought Knitting & Crocheting for Dummies and last night while [livejournal.com profile] rewil and I watched Wolf Creek and Hostel - oddly enough, very similar plots with the whole backpacking campery death thing, quite the coincidence on that rental front - I learned how to do a two strand cast on and made headway on the whole garterstitch thing. Today I even managed to produce several inches of practice whatever without gaining or losing a stitch. Tomorrow I'm going to shoot for the mysteries of purling. By the end of the week I should have changing yarn and binding off down and in theory scarf production could begin next week.

For some reason it's taking me longer to get through this knitting thing then it did to learn how to crochet - got that in a day. Of course I learned that right about the same time I first became a redhead, so...
