Hanging Gardens, The (Wanderlust) - This perfume is an interpretation of the Hanging Gardens by night, based on further accounts of its fruit and flora: date palm, ebony, fir, pomegranate, plum, two pears, quince, fig, and grapevine with plumeria, three gardenias and dry rose. I can really catch the woodsy undertone in the bottle. And frankly, I'm not fond of it. Then I put it on and it's HELLO GARDENIA! Not as bad as say Highwayman, but still very much in my face. Thankfully it quickly mellows, but I'm still not getting any of the fruit notes I was hoping for. Now the hints of fir are coming out and I'm not a fan.
Hearth '04 (Yule Blend - Limited Edition) - Sweet pipe tobacco, cherry wood, the warm, worn leather of an easy chair and a pleasant, subtle waft of fireplace smoke I couldn't put this on. I opened it up and... it's exactly as advertized in the imp. Pipe tobacco, cherry wood, a bit of smoke. And I felt like ralphing.
Jezebel (Love Potions) - Biblical witch, priestess of Astarte, and general troublemaker. A true role model for today's upwardly mobile Modern Woman. A gloriously decadent blend of honey, roses, orange blossom and sandalwood. Almost creamsicle in the imp. I really had some high hopes for this from the scent in the imp. I wanted roses and honey and I got a light mix of orange blossom and rose and a lot of sandalwood. Not a favorite.
Lolita (Love Potions) - Bright, sweet and youthful, but swelling with a poisonous sexuality. Glittering heliotrope, honeysuckle, orange blossom and lemon verbena. Ohh, glittering heliotrope. No clue what the hell that means, but it sounds fun doesn't it? So - lemon verbena = lemon furniture polish. There may be some orange blossom under that but I'm getting Pledge. Why does every thing I try with any hint of lemon turn into a cleaning product? Not that it's that bad, just - you know - I don't want to cuddle up to my man and have him think about cleaning the house. Oh thank goodness it changes and I get a bit of gumdroppy goodness, slightly spicey. Fades super fast. In less than an episode of CSI on DVD (sans commercials) I've had Lemon Pledge, spicy Gumdrop, Warrick in a wife beater looking mighty fine, and finally baby powder.
Rose Red '04 (Yule Blend - Limited Edition) - The perfected winter rose, dew covered and freshly cut. Fresh rose. Meaty, fragrant and all rose.
