Drove all the way out to K.C. Thursday night to catch POA at a midnight showing, instead of waiting another fourteen hours and watching a matinee at the local movie house.

Not that I didn't watch the Friday matinee as well, mind you.

My thoughts - behind a cut for those who haven't seen the film yet.

It wasn't so much The Prisoner of Azkaban as it was The Highlights of the Prisoner of Azkaban. If you hadn't already read the book, you are going to miss entire chunks of the story.

Not one word about the Wolfsbane potion (other than a rather anti-climatic "Remus, did you forget to take your potion?" at the end) or about Snape making the potion. Kind of an important thing to forget when you are dealing with a Werewolf for an entire year.

Not a word about Snape's hatred of Harry having something to do with Harry's dad and the Marauders. Doesn't even mention that the Sirius, Peter, Remus and James were the Marauders. I mean, it's not hard to infer that Moony and Lupin are one in the same, especially considering how familiar Lupin is with the map... but still. Nothing about Sirius, Peter and James becoming animagus to spend time with Lupin.

Pretty much no indication (other than inferred) that James was an animagus. One can assume by the name "Prongs" on the map (if one is able to come to the conclusion that "Padfoot" is Sirius and "Wormtail" is Peter) that James turns into a deer. It would have made the scene where Harry conjures his Patronus much more emotional if the connection had been made, in some form.

Who was that kid hanging out with Draco? That wasn't the other half of Crabbe/Goyle. Who was he? And where did the redhead, Susan Bones, go? Just because Columbus isn't directing anymore doesn't mean they have to fire his kid, does it?

As always, not enough Snape in my biased opinion.

Beautiful camera work. Much darker than the first two. Hints of the Ron/Hermione relationship are everywhere. The Whomping Willow was amusing.

Certain scenes in the Quidditch match reminded me of the tornado scene from the Wizard of Oz.

Dumbledore was very twinkly, I'm still not sure who's Big D I prefer, but I'm glad the new guy didn't attempt a Richard Harris impersonation and decided to do his own version of the Big D.

All in all, I liked the movie and will probably see it again at least one more time. Definitely buy it on DVD - if only for the cut scenes and to watch my Potions Master strutting around.
