Well, it's been an eventful few weeks. Lots of things I just didn't have time to talk about.
CONCERT NEWS:
I went to the Weird Al concert in April with Jane't,
rewil and DH. It was a great concert. Better than the the one in Wichita in November. I think Al and the band have gotten used to the tour and were able to go with the music more this time around.
The only clouds on the event were the arrival of Fred Phelps (whom I can't stand) and the recent deaths of Al's parents. We were fully prepared for the concert to be canceled but the show went on. I can only hope that Al realizes how much his fans appreciate his work and how sorry we are for his loss.
May 10 saw me at the Starlight with Jane't and
rewil watching the David Bowie concert. Personally, I'm not all that familiar with Bowie's work (I recognized five songs from the play list and I didn't even realize they were his until the concert). I did enjoy him as Jareth in Labyrinth (which I desperately need to find on DVD).
The concert was supposed to start at 7:30 with the opening band Sterophonics - whom I might have enjoyed more if I could actually hear the words as opposed to the heart rhythm altering bass, not that I don't enjoy having my heart beat in sync with the drums, but after several hours it starts to hurt.
It's the first open air concert I've ever attended so I'm used to showing up, finding my seat and sitting. Therefore I was a bit perplexed by the large hordes of people milling around the entire concert, switching seats, standing in the aisle, getting up to smoke, coming back with beer, getting up to pee, coming back with beer, etc... The people watching was very entertaining. Saw a woman who couldn't be more than fifteen or sixteen wearing shorts that let her butt cheeks hang out below the pockets and a pink tube top that barely stayed up hand in hand with an older gentleman who wasn't a day under forty. They were christened "Jailbait".
Bowie and his band were very good.
rewil was the rabid Bowie fan and she seemed to really enjoy herself. Under Pressure was outstanding.
KITTEN NEWS:
As you know, Weeble is no longer with us. The very same day that he passed on, DH and I visited our Landlord (and Lady). They are fostering a dozen kittens for the Humane Society and DH it might make me feel better to play with them for a while. He wanted me to pick one to take home.
There was a beautiful half-Siamese that greatly resembled Loki (think dark black fur instead of Loki's flame points). He is a playful thing, running around chasing the other kittens and making little kitty growls when I picked him up. I kept trying to talk myself into him, because he was such a striking cat.
However, this tiny little ball of fur (a red patch tabby) kept getting in the way when I reached for the other cat. She kept crawling up onto my shoulder to sniff at my ear, only to fall into my skirt and look at me with a "What happened?" expression. She is honestly the ugliest kitten in the entire litter. She's underweight, the runt of the litter, and her face is all eyes. I told DH she looked like an alien. No matter how much I wanted to take home the other kitten, she just kept drawing my attention back to her.
We've decided to name her Roswell (Roz for short since no one will understand the alien reference once she gains enough weight to grow into her gigantic eyes). I'm hoping to bring her home later today.
And finally - DH in the Army
He's in. He ships out the night of the fourteenth to Fort Sill in OK. They signed him to a four year enlistment. Four years. Seems like a long time. I've been told I'll get to see him once or twice a year. He'll be hear for our second wedding anniversary in a few weeks, we weren't expecting that.
We're going to go see the new Harry Potter to celebrate. I took off work (actually, I took off work for the movie before we realized DH was going to be around).
Ass.boss tried telling me that even though I'd listed the date as time off two months ago, and I still have vacation that they are required to give me ... that just because she hasn't spent a single wedding anniversary with her husband she didn't see why she needed to let me off work. That was met with stunned silence, let me tell you. Then a disbelieving, "Excuse me? I don't think I heard that correctly, because it sounded like you just said something incredibly stupid."
