You would think that when I get news I'm super excited about I'd hop on LJ and Facebook and share immediately, wouldn't you?

Except for the part where we wanted to tell a few people individually before broadcasting it out into the internets.

And then, by the time Captain had a chance to finally send a mass e-mail out to all the people on the brand new "we are a family dang it, let's all try to communicate once in awhile" mailing list that Captain's sister started (And bless her for it, because that is seriously something the family needs and goodness knows I'd given up on them ages ago, but a few people have stepped up and sent a few emails, including Captain, and it's more progress than they've had since I've been in the family and I'm totally off topic, aren't I?)... So by the time Captain sent out an email it had been a few days and I'd already talked to my mom and sis on the phone and told a few people in person so I sort of just forgot about Facebook and LJ.

My attention span is eerily similar to that of an over-caffeinated ferret of late. I blame the baby.

Who is a boy, btw.

Which is the news I've been meaning to share and then getting distracted before I could type it up because OMG baby registries are hard to figure out, yo, and that's what I feel like I've been doing for AGES. I finally remembered to mention it on Facebook the other day, and totally swore I'd do it over here and then... yeah.

Anyway, at our Level 2 ultrasound a week or so ago the tech pointed to something on the screen and assured us that whatever it was was a "boy part". She even sent us home with a picture very helpfully labeled "BOY" and an arrow pointing at whatever it is she saw. Personally, I'm taking her word for it because I suspect it could be a boy part and she's paid to understand sonogram images and I'm not. Also, the tech student who was hanging around for the ultrasound seemed to agree with her.

Yes, I let a student witness my ultrasound and then I graciously gave her permission to play about with the machine and my stomach while the regular tech went to discuss the Demon Spawn's images with the doctor. Students gotta learn sometime, right? Also, it meant we were able to see Demon Spawn bunch his little legs up and push off the side of my uterus so he could do a complete roll (and end up facing the exact opposite of where they needed him to face because he is stubborn like that, probably because he is my child).

Anyway, since the kid was not cooperating and they were unable to get any useful images of his heart, I need to go back in for another Level 2 after the fourth of July because it is super important to get a good view of kiddo's heart due to all sorts of risk factors involved with me being old and diabetic and like a billion other things.

Other than the missing heart images, the stuff they did get seemed to be good, I think. No one called me into an office all serious faced or anything, and my OB was very chipper when I saw her two days later and she assures me that the Level 2 Doc has her number on speed dial so she would have heard from him if there'd been a problem.

Also, did I mention baby registries are hard? Because what do I know about breast pumps? Or bottle nipples? Mattress pads? Diapers? Nursing pads? For serious, who are you supposed to call up and be all "So, your views on nursing pads?"

And product reviews on Babies R Us are laughable. Seriously, who takes the time to log into an account to leave a five star review that says "I bought this for my grandchild who will be born in five months, and we haven't even taken it out of the box. It's pretty. I think she'll like it." for things like car seats. Or one star reviews that pretty much amount to "I can't read instructions and the product doesn't work in a way that I wanted it to work but the instructions and description explicitly state it can not do so it sucks."

Anyway, I've got to get back to trying to figure out which bottle nipple will be the least likely to cause the kid to excessively vomit on me.

Yay for a boy parasite! Which is what I wanted to say on another site, but decided I didn't know how the rest of your friends would react.

If you want to know anything, I can query my sister who had a baby in 2010. She pumped and seemed to have strong opinions on what sort of pump she used.
