I've heard rumblings of "the end of LJ", which always seems to happen whenever LJ does something stupid (like ticking off someone's fandom) or it goes down for awhile (stupid DDoS attacks).

However, this time it's actually bothering me.

First off, I don't think there is any One Blog that people seem to migrate to. I know at one point there were a lot of new Insane Journals (I have one), but I've only reconnected with a small fraction of my flist there. Then came Dreamwidth - I believe my flist there is maybe six people?

I like the people on my flist, that's why they're on my flist. I enjoy reading their posts and hearing about lives or fandom craziness or crafts or stories or whatnot. I don't want to lose that because then I'll be stuck listening to my husband talk about his day at work and since most of what he does is classified and I do not have clearance... You can imagine how short those conversations are. "How was work?" "I did things. Then there was lunch. I ate a sandwich in the car. Then I did more things. Now I'm home." "Lovely. I'm just going to put my headphones on and ignore you now, kay?"

So, where - if anywhere - have you guys backed up your personal blogs or whatnot to? If LJ does go down permanently, where should I have already made an account and set up temp. housekeeping? Or, is LJ dying a sign that it is time to give up blogging in general?

Secondly, I have spent minutes slaving over a fic journal here on LJ (and its mirror on IJ) so that I could have all my publicly viewable stories in one place. I've got most - but not all, as I discovered this morning - of my fic on Digital Quill (thank you, SLogic), but not all of my stuff is eligible for posting on Ashwinder and I'm just not fond of using the WIKTT Archives.

Digital Quill is willing to take all of my submissions, with no size minimum or limits on specific pairings, so that is my non-blog go to choice, but I know that it doesn't get nearly the traffic a larger site like Ashwinder/Sycophant Hex receives, and without a blog to pimp a new story... You can see where this is going.

Also, without LJ I'll miss a lot of new fic recs. I find new things to read on the HGSS_Digest and love draughts. Not to mention all of the gifts from the exchanges.

And now I've made myself a sad panda.

Perhaps I'm just being paranoid. I hope I'm just being paranoid. I don't want to see LJ die, because it would mean leaving behind people and things I'm not ready to walk away from.

Hee! You're very welcome! We're delighted that you're there, but you're right. The traffic there is abysmal. :/

If LJ goes the way of the dinosaurs, Shiv and Gin and I will move the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_exchange to Dreamwidth since that's where we think most people will end up.

I'm hoping that once the Russian elections are over, the ddos attacks will stop. I guess we'll see, though.

Oh, and I have an invitation to An Archive of our Own, if you'd like it. The traffic there isn't much better than DQ, but it is growing.

Is An Arcive of our Own any good? I've never visited it before.

I really hope the DDoS attacks will stop, I'm far too lazy to move everything over to new journals again, so I'd probably just drop my craft journal and only be half-hearted about moving fic.

If you have to move the exchange, would you move the older gifts too? It would be a shame to lose some of the stories and artwork that are only posted on the exchange, but I can't even imagine how much work that would end up being.

I like AO3 well enough. It's still in beta, so the search function really isn't the best, but I understand that they're working to make it an archive that will welcome all fandoms, and I like that attitude.

Oh, geez, it would end up being a huge amount of work to move the Exchange. (All that relinking of chapters!) But I don't see that we'd have any choice if we decide to pull up stakes. If LJ goes down permanently, we don't want to lose everything.

If the worst happens and you need help with anything, be sure to keep me in mind. I would hate for anyone's hard work to get lost just because LJ died.

Thank you! We'll definitely keep you in mind. Hee! We don't mind sharing the work. ;P

DW is okay. I'm not ready to give up journaling online.
