So, last week, my central air went tits up on Sunday night. I called the realtor Monday. The realtor sent out a repair man who said the compressor was shot. This was on Thursday. On Friday, either the realtor or the landlord sent out guy number two, who didn't even open the case.

Yesterday, after living through ninety degree heat IN MY HOUSE over the weekend, I get a call from the realtor assistant who says the landlord is sending his repair guy over today at six thirty to fix the compressor.

Except, no.

Guy shows up at five thirty, while Colonel Brandon and I are outside attempting to not die of heat. I corral the dog and get him inside to his kennel so the repair guy can do his thing, only... he's not here to repair it. He's here to see what's wrong with it. Again.

Landlord wanted a Second (really third) Opinion.

I? Start crying.

For real.

Mental note, talk to Crazy Meds Doctor, because I'm pretty sure I need to reevaluate my meds.

So, I sit on my swing and try to calm myself down while Third Repair Guy tries the same things First Repair Guy did to jerry rig the central air unit, in the hopes of maybe forcing it to work for awhile. No dice.

Beck calls and I start crying again trying to explain what's happening, and Third Repair Guy hears me. After the call, he asks how long the unit has been broken and I tell him over a week and he says he's sorry and he understands how frustrating and difficult it can be to have no AC down here, and I tell him the windows don't open and he's shocked.

He says he's sorry he can't help, and I tell him it is totally not his fault.

Then, I call the realtor and tattle on the landlord, who, apparently, told the realtor they were taking care of the problem so the realtor thought it was done and I had air. She didn't know the landlord had called in for a second (third) opinion. And she was pissed.

She wasn't even upset that I ended up calling her at home (which I totally apologized for, I thought her phone would take me to voice mail after hours).

So... who knows if I'll get my air fixed this week, but I have reached the breaking point and I am so upset I'm shaking because it's bleeping HOT because I live in a heat retaining brick house with windows that don't open.

ETA - Just heard from realtor, who contacted landlord, and they've agreed to replace the compressor, so now it's a matter of getting the part ordered and getting the repair dude here. No idea how long that will take, but I can guarantee it's five days longer than it should have been.

ETA Again - Realtor assistant just called. She contacted her repair dude, and he will be here at some point tomorrow to fix the unit!

It's ridiculous that it took calling the realtor, but I'm glad it's going to be repaired.

Maybe the landlord will be looking for a new job soon and you can get a better landlord.

Sadly, in this case, the landlord actually owns the house. He was living here before his company transferred him to Tennessee and tried to sell the place for several months before giving up and renting it.

I understand that compressors aren't cheap and they were hoping that the first guy was wrong and the problem was something less expensive, but there is no way I could put up with any more "second opinions" right now.

~nods~ Compressors aren't cheap, but there's a difference between getting a second opinion and blindly trying to deny reality, and the landlord had slipped into the latter territory.
