Captain didn't come home for lunch. That alone doesn't really bother me, every once in awhile he gets stuck on base and can't come home, but we're expecting guests tonight and we need to stock up on supplies before the D&D game.

I tried calling his cell, but he didn't pick up, which makes me think he must be in a class or meeting or something. I left a message reminding him to stop by the commisary on the way home.

Thought about taking a nap since I didn't get much sleep last night thanks to the stupid dog - he was barking all night, I think he could hear the neighbors fighting, I know I could, the way they were throwing things around and screaming, I should have called the damn cops on them - but the house is a mess and I still need to clean up and the dog is still going nuts every time someone walks past the yard outside the fence. I don't even know how he can see them through the wooden slats, but he can. Or maybe he hears them? Smells them? Whatever, it's annoying the hell out of me and I'm about ready to lock him up and throw away the key, I swear.

Why?

Captain called. I thought he was going to tell me he couldn't stop at the store, but he started yelling the second I answered my cell.

"They're coming! We can't hold them back much longer!" Something about the unit being cut down and the survivors - Survivors? - falling back to regroup.

He told me to run.

Run from what? He got cut off before I could ask. I heard someone screaming over the phone and gunfire.

I went outside right after the call. It looks like there was some kind of accident on base, I see black smoke, something is on fire.

He could be talking about the fire, maybe it's spreading? The wind isn't right for it to come this way, yet, but if it shifts... it could come toward the house?

I don't know where he thinks I can run to, he's got our car, and I'm not leaving the cats or the dog.

The radio doesn't have anything about the fire, and the cable is out again. The damn cable goes out every time the wind shifts lately.

I did get some things together and boxed up the cats, just in case the fire does come this way. I also left a message on a friend's cell, asking her swing by and maybe pick us up.

It's not the fire.

Oh, God.

I can barely see, it's dark up here. I can hear things moving. Not them, not yet, but something up here in the dark with me.

The only light is from the laptop screen and some thin cracks in the insulation where they did such a crappy job repairing the siding after last year's big windstorm.

I had to leave the dog, I couldn't get him up here. I tried, but he's too big and I couldn't lift him. He's barking. I want to tell him to be quiet, but I can't.

I'm too scared to speak.

Please, if you're reading this, please come help me.

The cats are here, their kennels barely fit through the attic access, and they're complaining. Shhhh.

It came through the sliding glass door, my neighbor, but not. I knew that fucking door was going to be a problem. It just walked right through the glass like it was paper. The only warning I had was the dog, just enough time to get me out of the office and into the living room to see it stumble into the yard before it charged us.

Somehow, I don't know how, but somehow I ended up in the garage, I tripped over a pile of Captain's crap and nearly bit my tongue in half when my head hit the concrete. But that's when I saw the baseball bat. It came at me, the dog hanging off of one of its legs, biting at it. I swung as hard as I could and it just bounced off and my god my wrists hurt so bad but it was still coming and I swung again and again and again.

If there was one, there could be others. He had said they were coming.

How long until I lose the wireless connection? Until the battery on the laptop dies?

Why won't he call me back?

I'm so scared.

Some one is in the house, I can hear them moving arou
