If ever someone suggests having your tonsils removed as an adult? Hit them over the head with something heavy and run away.

So very miserable.

To recap: It took one pre-op nurse and one RN to attempt to give me an IV, resulting in three separate tries, one blown vein, one attempt on the back of my right hand without deadening the area first because my veins were constricted too much to begin with, four exclamations of "Wow, you are really dehydrated, aren't you?" and finally a very tentative and heavily taped IV in the back of my left hand (which is bruised almost as bad as the blown vein).

I was blind during pre-op, so I have no idea who I talked to, but they weren't terribly friendly and by that point I was terrified.

I woke up lying on my side, vomiting as they pulled the breathing tube thing out, crying and saying "nightmare" over and over again. Someone thought this was funny. Again, blind so... who knows who that was. Even though I had stopped eating or drinking several hours before my midnight deadline, there was enough in my stomach to make me very very sick when I came out of anesthesia.

After that, I felt fine for the first day. My throat hurt pretty bad, but I could eat and sleep. Mom was here for the first few days and that was a huge blessing because I started to feel worse as the days went on. I seem to remember hearing that it's supposed to be at its worst around days four through six and then maybe get better after that, but they did say it would be a few weeks of feeling horrid.

I feel like something died in my mouth, and it hurts to swallow, but I'm constantly taking pills or drinking water or trying to eat so I'm constantly swallowing.

On the plus side, I think I've lost some weight. If I could just get rid of the bruises, I wouldn't look so bad, I think. And I did get up and take a shower today, so I feel more like a human being.

It's supposed to be a hell of an operation once you're over ten, so you have my sympathies.

I am so sorry. I hope you will continue to mend and that you'll feel much better soon.

Like Shiv, I'd heard that having your tonsils out was a lot harder on adults than on children, but I didn't realize it was so much harder! I'm sorry that you've had to go through this, and I hope that you get over it quickly.

:-(

I'm sorry that was such a horrible ordeal for you.

Keep resting and getting better! *hugs*

*huggles* I'm glad I never had tonsilitis bad enough to warrant the op.

On the down side, the rather scary op involving poking around in my brain that I was supposed to be having in February? Has been brought forward to Tues 19th Jan. Yes, that's Tuesday coming *wibbles*

And my car started smelling of burning electrics on the way home, & now something has shorted out completely & flattened the battery. Wednesday 13th has always been doomsday in our family. It's certainly lived up to its rep this year, having gone gentle on us over the last few *curls up in the corner with a blanket & cries quietly*

Oh yes, & our boiler is dying *pulls blanket over head*
