Since Captain came home. Which means that he'll be leaving in just under a week.
I'm going to just forget about that part of it and concentrate on what has been going on since we picked up Captain at the airport.
We spent a few days settling in to the new "Miah is in charge of running the household and you're only going to be here for 18 days so we won't be changing anything until you get back for real" system of doing things. All the furballs said hello and wanted cuddles, even Bella crept out to sniff and be petted the first few days and then she was in Captain's lap full time. Seriously, Bella and I had a few heart to hearts about how she was my kitty, and she would come over to sit in my lap for ten minutes, then right back to Captain.
Brat.
Tuesday night, we dropped the pooch off at "camp" and spent the evening packing so that we could take off Wednesday morning. Mom, dad and Midget wanted to give Captain his Christmas gifts while he was in the country, so we had an abbreviated Christmas Party before it was time to eat.
We met a pair of old friends for dinner in my hometown. I hadn't seen D and R since R's first wedding back in '97. Captain got to hear some stories about my high school years, and I got to remember things I had completely forgotten (perhaps on purpose).
Thursday was turkey day with mom, dad, Midget and various aunts/uncles/cousins. Friday, we drove to Topeka and ate dinner with some of Captain's family. We also decided to rent a hotel room that night instead of going on to the next destination on the travel list.
I'm not exactly sure why TPTB thought that Jurassic Park was such a festive holiday weekend thing, but we managed to catch all three movies during our various hotel stays on the trip.
As I mentioned earlier, my laptop died the first day we were on the road, plus we had no available internet the first two nights and Captain and I? Totally addicted to the internet.
I mean, sure, you're probably thinking to yourself "they could talk to each other or something" but you don't know my husband.
We popped out to B&N so I could pick up another book (since I managed to nearly finish the one I started in the car earlier) and then Captain and I took turns goofing around on his laptop until it was time to sleep.
Saturday found us at the Casa de Jason and Mrs Jason in time for lunch. Planet Sub. Nom Nom Nom. The Jasons' offered to host this year's Christmas Gathering, and we spent the night there playing Rockband and opening presents and throwing wrapping paper and cringing from Jason and the penile Nunchucks of doom.
The next morning, we drove down to B'ville and rented our second hotel room of the trip (Hampton Inn, lovely place, very nice, indoor pool, HUGE bed), then popped over to visit Begs and Snazzy and their little one. Begs and Captain did some much needed preventive maintenance on Captain's laptop, then we ran off for dinner.
Captain and I decided that rather than driving home, we just wanted to spend another night at the Hampton. Which was nice. Snazzy took a few hours Monday afternoon to drive us to a few local shops (candles and jewelry, woohoo) and dinner at McAllisters (loaded potato and brownie delight).
Since we've returned home, Captain and I have pretty much done nothing.
I keep feeling guilty, asking if there is anything he wants to do, and he keeps telling me "I just want to be here with you."
I know it sounds sad, but we're actually happy just sitting here in bed with a pair of laptops and the cuddle bunny cat and cheesy movies on the tv.
My heart is going to break when he leaves.
Break.
