My desktop is dead.

Brain dead, at least.

It turns on just fine, but thanks to Windows Service Pack #3, it can't boot to Windows anymore. Actually, it can't boot to anything.

That includes Safe Mode. You know, that thing that you load up so that you can figure out why you can't load up anything else?

Yeah.

My Go-To Computer Fixer Expert Guy Alex has figured out how - in theory - to fix the problem and it sounds like it's something he could talk me through over the phone EXCEPT for the tiny issue where the computer needs the admin password and I don't have a flippin' clue what it is. The stupid thing was set up four years ago by the Captain, how the heck would I know what it is now?

Expert Alex knows a way around that, too, but it requires using one of the working computers to fetch a program... and burning it to a disc to bring it over to the borked one. Or, it would, if either of the two working computers had a cd burner. Which they don't. Nor does Sarah's computer.

Rather than make the fourteen hour round trip to visit Alex, he suggested I call the Other Computer Fixer Expert Guy Begs to see if he might be able to help me out, since he's a few hours closer and I was supposed to head in his direction this weekend anyway. Begs seems to think he'll be able to get it working once he can get his hands on it, which is great... except that it means I'll be without my primary computer until this weekend, and everything I was planning to work on this week is on the desktop and not accessible to the laptop.

Damn it.

Stupid Windows service pack of crappitude.

ETA: Someone who shall remain nameless... BELLA ... just lunged at me from under the bed and attacked my ankle and when I screamed (unexpected kitten teeth and nails are pointy) she bounced off all big-eyed and insane. Pretty sure she's on kitty crack or something.
