It wouldn't be a renfest if I didn't come home with a sunburn. On my chest.
Actually, since I wasn't in a bodice this time, the burn doesn't cover nearly as much territory as usual, so yay for that. On the other hand, since I wasn't in garb, there was no wide brimmed hat to save the back of my neck and that's starting to look like it got the worst of it. This is what I get for staying out of direct sunlight 95% of the year.
Captain and I are both fried and more than a little worn out after spending yesterday at the Norman Medieval Faire with
snazzykathy,
begstodiffer and their family. I'm not sure what I was expecting from the fair, but it totally surpassed anything I'd considered. I'd say it was probably in the top three of fests I've gone to (Muskogee being my number one simply because of the air conditioned castle that is a godsend when one is prone to heat stroke). It would be number two, if it wasn't for my anonymous and incredibly lowkey obsession with Mr. Stripeypants from the Jolly Rogers, which I only ever get to see at the KCRF.
kauricat, Queen's Gambit were there. I wasn't able to stop for a full performance, but I did get to hear them sing a few numbers as we wandered through the area near their stage.
Captain and I arrived half an hour before the faire was supposed to open, so we walked around and watched vendors set up their wares while we waited for the others to arrive. Michelle, the woman who makes the bestest bodices in the world, was there and I was able to drool over Kathy's new corset (very nearly talked Captain into going back today so that I could max out one of the credit cards to get a new one myself, but the sunburn convinced us to stay in town today).
Found all sorts of things I probably would have bought if the faire were two weeks (and one paycheck) from now, so I had a blast window shopping.
Discovered that the minute I see a small child wandering away as fast as her little legs can carry her my instincts kick in to chase after her calling "Catherine!"... even when her name is Sophie. For this I blame
grandpoohbah and her parents. Perhaps it's a good then Captain and I haven't had any children of our own.
Also discovered that M&M's currently have a Wild Cherry flavor. It still freaks me out.
After the faire, Kathy's brother and his wife lead us to a lovely Mexican restaurant for lunch and then Captain and I drove home. I promptly passed out in the car, as I tend to do, and then we both needed a nap once we got home.
Anywho - am already looking forward to Muskogee's fest in May and looking up this Joplin Faire I keep hearing about, not to mention KCRF in the fall. I'll have to remember to take pictures of those since Captain won't be able to join us.

The closing weekend is May 24th-26th, and that just happens to be when we are free. What a lovely coincidence!
