Have deposited Captain at the motor pool. Will pick him up again in 18 days.

Crap.

Must remember to slap whoever the idiot was who suggested it would be a great idea to stay up all night playing Guitar Hero III (retail therapy = brand new toy) with A&S, then start watching 30 Days of Night just two hours before we had to load the car. Suspect that idiot might have been me.

Confirm idiocy by forgoing the usual diet cherry coke this morning and drinking a bottle of S's Mountain Dew. Chase the Dew with a handful of chocolate stuff Oreos (chocolate therapy = sugar rush = queasy).

Did manage to navigate car out of uber-busy motor pool parking lot without maiming anyone and did not lose house keys after saying goodbye to husband - therefor already one up on last major separation.

Will sleep for the next eighteen hours and then treat self with microwavable pizza rolls, fan fic and Wii.

Waugh. Sleep is good. Massive amounts of sleep all at once, topped off by pizza rolls? Win! Or in your case, Wiin.

May the next eighteen days just zip right along for ya both.

Blarg indeed. I hope that the next 2+ weeks speed by.

I started reading Tyger Tyger last night. How did you like it?

I'm just reaching a point where I can sit down and start reading. I did check the reviews before hand (sort of a litmus test, if you will) and realized that this Snape has a particularly ewwkey past - yes, I said ewwkey, I'm barely awake and not terribly coherent, sorry - and it turned at least one reader off the story entirely so I skimmed the chapter in question just to see if it was something I could live with.

It was bad, but it could have been much worse - in a descriptive detail sort of way, not in the act itself being easily overlookable or anything - so I'm all set to read the entire thing. The majority of the reviews enjoyed the story as a whole, but the warning that it can be darker is firmly in place so I shouldn't be surprised.

What about you?

I got about to the point of the Ewwky Past and while I think I'm supposed to be repulsed by what his parents did, that didn't really get me. The part about his Death Eater performance bothered me too, but I think I'm kind of desensitized to "Horrible Things Severus Did As A Double Agent." I didn't stop because of that; I was up too late and had to head to bed. That and it's hard for me to read that stuff when my husband is sitting at the next computer and he can see my screen. If I want to read about ewkky pasts, I want to do it in private, thank you very much.

It's a well-written story, but the characterizations of Hermione and Severus seem a bit off. In this work, he has done dark things, and he automatically provokes a specific response in people due to his origin, but he himself doesn't seem all that dark to me, just sad and tortured. I prefer him with the bad past, tortured, and a bit snarkier and less considerate of others' feelings. At least, to begin with. And the evolution should be slow.

Hermione bothers me too, but I just cut out what bothered me for fear of spoilers. She's not horribly off, just not the way I usually envision her. Then again, I've not finished the story. I am looking forward to finishing it, because it has some unique-to-me elements and I am interested to see what else the author has in store.
