I meant to write about this earlier, but I have been so physically overwhelmed the last few days, I just haven't had the energy to sit at my desk long enough to think and type. I suspect I simply overdid it on Sunday (and again on Monday since we were out of food in the house and HAD to run the errands I'd been putting off).
Anyway, this weekend something truly amazing happened to me and I just want to share.
Sunday, Captain and I showed up at the hippy grocery store where we were scheduled to play board games for a few hours with our Board Gamers group, only as we walked into the food court area I realized the glass walled meeting room was full of balloons and decorations and people I knew and presents and diapers and cake.
Our friends here in Georgia threw us - well, me, because Captain was in on it - a surprise baby shower!
They had rennaissance decorations (kiddie helmets and swords, a knight and horse on the cake) and balloons and there were people from our board gaming group, people from Captain's work, people from the game store, people I role play with but haven't had a chance to see in months.
I still don't know how they managed to get everyone I would want to see from this area together in one room, but they managed it.
I cried, obviously, because that's what I do.
By the end of the day I was so exhausted, but I didn't want to leave until the very end because it was such an amazing experience. We even stuck around after the shower was cleaned up and played a board game, since that was what I thought we were going to be doing that day anyway.
Luckily a few people brought cameras so I'll be able to get a disc of photos so I can add some to the Demon Spawn's baby book eventually. Captain did get a few pics of me opening presents and of me in the hat that the hostess made for me (she took a plastic princess tiara and attached tissue and wrapping paper and ribbon to it as I unwrapped the gifts). Yes, I willingly looked like a doofus for several hours in public, because that's what you do when awesome people hand you a wrapping paper tiara at your shower.
Today I'm finishing up the last of the thank you cards, so they can go in the mail in the morning, and I have to start washing baby laundry soon because I have oodles of new crib sheets and receiving blankets (and also so many diapers, I'm pretty sure I will never have to buy the baby any more newborn diapers ever!) to wash, fold and put away. I've also got knitting and my overdo exchange fic to work on, but those are both something I can do in bed with my legs up after I take my shower, so that's on my agenda for today.
ALSO, in funny news, mom called me last night to let me know that her work threw her ababy Grandma-to-be shower as well! How cute is that?
