Colonel Brandon has been sick since late last night. Sick enough that I was in panic mode for a bit until I managed to calm myself down with that "logic" stuff. I kept an eye on him, waiting to see if it was an isolated incident or if he was going to get worse and after an hour or two it seemed like the problem might be passing. He wasn't lethargic or terribly cranky, he was eating and pooing and all that, acting fairly normal for him... except for bloody bathroom issues that I won't go in to.
Keep in mind that I seriously do not handle the sight of blood well, no matter where it is coming from.
Fast forward to this morning, he's a tiny bit cranky, but still wagging his tail when I was in the room, wants petted, ate his breakfast. "Maybe it's passed?" I think to myself as I took him outside to do his business.
And then promptly rushed back inside to call the vet.
He'd eaten a wild mushroom before I could stop him on Monday, you see, and while we can't be sure that it was the culprit, Something managed to mess with his digestive track bad enough that he's now got a bacterial infection and a fever of 104.
Poor baby had to wear the muzzle of crapitude, got a shot in the side, and has to take antibiotics twice daily for the next week. And Mommy went out and pulled up every f'in' mushroom she could find from the yard. I've also got very firm instructions that if the bleeding hasn't stopped by Friday he needs to be back in the vet's office so that he doesn't have to suffer through the long weekend.
I seriously love how much my vet cares about animals. Horrible people skills, the best animal care I've ever seen. I can put up with slightly cranky if it means the furballs are being treated well.
In other pet news - Miss Bellatrix has begun to make her way through the pecking order in the feline hierarchy and no longer wants to sleep with Mommy all night. Now I get woken up by her wanting in to my room to cuddle, then woken up again a few hours later by her demanding to be let out to "play" with the other two. Play, in this case, is code for beating the ever loving snot out of Loki and glaring at Roswell for not backing down and letting Bellatrix have her way as Supreme Kitty of the household.
As psychotic as Loki normally is, even I have to admit he's got a reason to be paranoid right now. And that reason is named Bellatrix.

I *am* glad that Bellatrix is settling in! Sounds like she'll be a great addition to the household!
