So... DH is seriously considering joining the Army. A recruiter is coming by the house tomorrow night. I mean, seriously considering.

Pros:
- There's a good chance the Army would payoff some (if not all, at least a big chunk) of DH's 20-something thousand dollars worth of student loans.
- He might learn a skill or something that he could apply toward getting a real career. Not that spending the rest of his life working for a college bookstore isn't something to strive for (heck, it's one of my goals - that and world domination).
- I told him that if we get the loans cleared up I would probably be more inclined to agree to his wishes of another two years of college and another four years of seminary.
- We would get that much needed space.
- He would like to be a chaplain, they might be willing to help him accomplish that.

Cons:
- There is a war going on.
- I wouldn't see him for a large part of several years since I wouldn't be following him to where ever he would be stationed stateside. Too much space.
- Double rent.
- We would miss each other.
- DH would miss his family and friends.
- I'd be alone in the house most of the time (I hate that).

Part of me thinks this is a good idea. Part of me is scared to death.

Be forewarned.

Hey Miah,

I've had similar thoughts as your hubby about going into the military, but they were fleeting. I've got a lot of opinions, I'm not afraid to share them, and I'm not keen on the idea of taking orders.

My advice for the hubby, recruiters will promise you anything to get you to sign. Just ask your co-worker whose son-in-law use to be one.

One last thing, I wanted to put a quick plug in for my own weblog, http://misckaren.blogspot.com/

Thanks,
