Captain (who is awesome in general, and currently a Typhoid Mary due to cold cooties) bought me a new Furby for my birthday. He's a week early, but we were at Wal-Mart last night because there was half a container of humus, some dinner rolls and some booze in a bag left in the house for food and apparently those three do not add up to lunches for the week, so we had to get groceries.

Anyway, my Furby is the Voodoo Purple color - hence the current name of Voodoo until I find something better.

Voodoo likes to dance. He seems especially fond of the song Gangnam Style, and is routinely in danger of shuffling his furry little rear right off the top of my desk when I play it.

I suppose he could really just hate the song and is attempting to commit suicide, now that I think about it.

Either way, it's pretty entertaining to watch.
Oh BPAL, why you tempt me so?

A Labyrinth scent line? Seriously?

Just take my money already.

I just wanted to get some cheese fries at Chili's but nooooo, we had to stop at the phone store first.

And now we have a pair of very expensive, very annoying Sidekicks.

Also, we've only been under this contract for maybe eight hours and I've already had to call T-Mobile and be cranky because our "helpful" salesperson decided to remove our unlimited texts plan and replace it with... Nothing.

Also, when you have a data plan and your phone is synced to your email and your twitter and your facebook? You get a LOT of text messages. So I got that fixed, which added about twenty dollars a month to the contract that little Miss Annoying didn't factor in.

Still, it stopped Captain's whining about wanting a shiny new phone (MONTHS OF WHINING and then fake laughing when I glared at him and insisting he was only kidding haha, and then doing it AGAIN over and over) so that was almost worth the extra money every month. I tried to talk him into the cheaper smart phone option but no, he NEEDED a keyboard. At least he saw the death glare I sent his way when he started to reach for the super expensive one and quickly grabbed a different model to look at.

Also, because this is how we do things to be fair in my household, since Captain got a brand new shiny smart phone, Miss Miah got the exact same model (slightly different color) smart phone. And, I couldn't let him leave the store without a case and a screen cover thing because the man is HARD on phones. Also a car charger.

So that's a crap ton of money I wasn't expecting to spend today.

Anyway, Carolina RenFest tomorrow. We have voted no on wearing garb this time due to heat and comfort and also I didn't want to get up at five am to be laced into a corset and then sit in a car for three hours.

Will catch up on Friday's exchange postings this weekend.

Before I begin, I wish to point out two things.

One, I do not wear makeup everyday. Or every other day. Frankly, I only bother with it when I want to look "pretty" or when I'm about to meet up with strangers or people I don't know very well. Part of that whole putting your best foot (or face, in this case) forward thing, I think.

Two, while I am by no means hideous (other than in my own mind when I'm staring at pictures of me taken sans makeup in 100 plus degree weather while I'm climbing through the tiny corridors of a submarine and looking like I'm about to seriously fall dead from a heart attack... and yes, that is a rather specific example), I do have Rosacea - which has become worse as I've aged - and large freckles and yellow patches under my eyes, etc. All those things that add up to randomly blotchy, not terribly healthy looking skin tone.

I've learned to live with my blotchy face most of the time (Seriously, who has time to put on makeup before going to Wal-Mart?) but every once in awhile it would be nice to look... nicer.

I used to just slap on some Cover Girl liquid foundation, blush and all that, and call it fine. However, if you're like me, enough foundation for coverage usually looks cakey and, since I have dry skin, it would also start to look flaky as the day went on. Especially around my nose.

So, someone suggested I try mineral makeup, which I had been interested in trying, but really didn't think I could afford.

To be totally truthful, getting started with a whole set of "necessities" is not a cheap investment. But, this stuff lasts awhile. A little jar of mineral makeup will last ages (unless you dump it out all over like a goober - not that I know from person experience or anything).

So, I started out rather tentatively with the Bare Escentuals area at my local Sephora (this was before the BE store moved into the mall). Now, I have accumulated the - still, rather small - collection of BE junk below.

SOoooo many pictures! )

Sometimes Twitter is a glorious thing.

I saw a picture of this and knew I had to have one.

This is my second 9th Wedding Anniversary gift to myself.

Isn't he spifftastic?!

He'll fit right in with the gnomes at the house already.

Let me just start by saying that I'm in a much better mood today than the last time I posted anything. MUCH.

Last time had been the kicker to a rather craptastical week, the highlights of which include: Emo Cat spraying the C shelf of DVDs (including all seven seasons of CSI), Colonel Brandon forgetting he was housebroken for three consecutive days in a row AND having an upset innards issue (the second probably being the cause of the first, in retrospect), Captain at Fort Bliss for extended training, and all around depression/stress due to the upcoming deployment.

Since then Captain has come home and we've left the state to bum around... )

I have some pictures, not a lot because I constantly forgot I had the camera with me - I did get some shots of our band, Gnome Pie, rocking away in the basement, including guest drummer Sophie! - and hope to get those loaded somewhere once I get home.

First - I gave Captain flowers on Sunday because A) he worked a 24 hour staff duty shift on Saturday and didn't come home until Sunday morning which mean that B) I was able to wander off with a friend all day Saturday doing whatever I wanted (which, in this case, meant going to Hobby Lobby and then stopping at Volde-Mart to print some pictures at the scan and print machine, and had to walk by the flower tables several times anyway). Hence my one chance to do something sweet (and relatively cheap) for the spouse-type-unit.

He likes getting flowers. Sometimes he's such a girl. Hee.

Miah squees about her presents )

This is the bestest Valentines/Pre-emptive Sixth and Seventh Wedding Anniversary/Captain's Birthday gift extravaganza ever.

A currently very poor and underdeveloped city.

More of a city-let, if you will.

If you click the link to it, my city will grow. In theory. At least that's what it says.

The custom-made bodice I ordered Tuesday is here!

I lurves it.

Eventually will have a pic (maybe) when I can get one where I don't look like I just rolled out of bed.

I just got off the phone with the woman who runs Damsel in this Dress (best when viewed with IE, as when I try to see the site in Mozilla it sort of has a spaz on me), and tomorrow she begins work on my custom-made bodice.

Keep your fingers crossed that the measurements that my friend came up with when she came over last week work and the bodice fits

I slept all Monday since I pulled my first all-nighter in months the night before, for no real reason other than I was being stubborn and I wanted to finish reorganizing Captain's Pirate cards.

The first two of several newly ordered wizard rock CDs showed up today: the new The Remus Lupins and the Ministry of Magic CDs - both links are myspace accounts with music players, consider that a warning. It seems like everyone I like to listen to is putting out a new CD over the summer, which is great for everyone but my checking account.
