A few months ago Captain and I finally let someone talk us into giving DnD 4.0 a try (verdict is still "I'm not impressed" btw). We are involved in two games at the moment, one that has been going on all that time and has already switched GMs once, and another that is just a short term module dungeon run that is being used in an attempt to drum up business for the local game store. We bought a Players Handbook and a DM Guide, so I figure thats sixty plus bucks the store wouldn't have received without the game, so yay?

Anyway, while I'm sort of attached to the character I made for the longer game and I've become invested in her backstory and all that stuff, I am having a blast playing with this short term character because she's not meant to be part of a long story arc.

She's a hobbit halfling barbarian named Callie Deathbringer. Four feet tall, pigtailed, with a high pitched voice and a battle cry that amounts to the noise that pig on that annoying insurance commercial makes when it goes racing down the street with the pinwheels. As a matter of fact, Callie even has a pair of crude, handmade pinwheels tucked into her pigtails BECAUSE of that commercial.

"I attempt to use Callie's Roar of Triumph. 'WHEEEEEEEE!'"

The rest of the party laughed at me when I introduced the character, but she's actually a little raging bladed whirlwind of death and high pitched girly squeals, and last night she did 65 points of damage in one hit to the level boss so ...

It's a good thing that the Saturday night game is full of gamers who don't take the came one hundred percent seriously. I mean, we follow the rules and we like to make things dead and all that, but we also like to have a bit of fun with our characters, give them a bit of personality. So Callie fits right in.

In totally unrelated news, I have been craving Hostess Fruit Pies (or some generic brand name equivalent) for weeks and NO ONE HAS THEM. We didn't get to Wal-Mart last night because the game ran late, so we had to go to the base commissary today because the Masters Golf thing starts tomorrow and I am not going into town to shop or eat for the next eight days, thanks. Anyway, the commissary had no fruit pies, either. I finally gave up and made poor Captain stop at a gas station in a last ditch effort and they had one single solitary cherry fruit pie, which I snatched up like it was gold.

I've been passing up Thin Mint ice cream in the hopes of finding fruit pies, people. I'm serious about this.

Some how, due to feats and things, I've managed to get a sixth level Ranger who can do five melee attacks a round - all with positive attack bonuses.

It's like doing calculus to work out the various modifiers. I had to write a cheat sheet with codes just to keep track of what attacks do which damage.

I giggled.

Haven't really had an urge to post here lately because I've been working on other things.

  • Finished reformatting the cast page for [livejournal.com profile] __lightning__ to make it look all shiny and sparkly and pretty. Which is Miah code for "I added user images".
  • Painting D&D figs - in the last month I have retouched two dragons and a black pegasus, as well as painted two more dragons. The white dragon turned out gorgeous and pearlescent and I really wish I could get a good picture of it to put on here. I'll keep working on that.
  • Have started yet another busy work/pretty/slightly useful to non-player projects for Lightning that will be something of a long term project. I could, and probably will, ask for some assistance at some point from the other players but for the moment it's all just me typing away to my heart's content with the new toy.
  • Began knitting coasters out of extra yarn two nights ago. I've just started the fourth coaster, and once it's finished I shall attempt matching placemats.
  • Family is coming to visit next week so I've cleaned the house - Captain helped muchly.
  • Sat down with all of the boxes of photos I have and sorted them into four piles of vaguely chronological order. At some point I need to go through each pile and do the same, listing who, where, and when on the backs. Did I mention I have five boxes of photos?
  • And I can't forget RP. Although with everything else going on there has been less RP than usual.

OH, and BPAL updated with their Halloween/Order of the Dragon/Trick or Treat scents and they taunt me.

I admit it. I geeked out totally.

I own The World's Largest Dungeon.

You may ask yourself why? That's a very good question and the answer is - I haven't a clue. I don't DM. My semi-regular four hour block of gaming on Sundays consists of [livejournal.com profile] cptn_oblivious sitting behind his DM screen plotting and another army couple and I. The man is very gung ho about his ranger/druid. His wife has a warlock that he "helped" with and she and I are more of the "let's enjoy ourselves" kind of gamers. In other words we giggle and plot and try to have fun with our characters and make an effort to break up the monotony of hack N' slash/wander for an hour and a half checking doors for traps and moving on.

No offense to my Hubby, but with Nature Boy pushing us forward it can become a little... yeah, you know. Three people do not a party into the WLD make, trust me on this.

I personally haven't been behind a Game Master screen since my Star Wars D20 game broke up (I loved that game, didn't have a clue about physics and made up my own SW crap most of the time, but I loved that game). So I have no idea why I bought an 800+ page WLD module.

In other news - Lego!Hogwarts is taking shape nicely. Second table has been set up and I've begun interconnecting random sets to maximize space. I'm considering putting Lego!Lockhart and Lego! Trewlaney in a compromising position.

I sort of forgot I have a personal LJ for awhile.

Let's see, what have I done since my last real update?

Put together some Legos. That was fun. Eventually I'm going to have to buy a second folding table to put the rest of them on as I'm only on set six(?) and the first table is full and there are many, many more where that came from. I've even begun rearranging and playing with the extra people as I find them. Spare Peeves? Slap some of Dumbledore's hair on it and call her Myrtle. See where I'm going with this?

And yes, eventually I shall go out and find a camera for picspam.

In which Miah rambles. A lot. )

I'm pretty sure it's actually impossible not to start a game of Civilization, tell yourself you'll only play for a bit and then realize you've been up all night sacking cities and building wonders like a crazed meglomaniac.

That's pretty much it unless you want to be bored to death with tales of the very small Sunday D&D game. ("Let's eat the goblin. I bet it tastes like chicken.")

Didn't think so.
